Russian X-ray Girl Natasha Demkina

“Natasha Demkina (born in 1987, in the city of Saransk) is hailed in Russia as “the girl with X-ray eyes”. The girl claims to have the gift of second sight, which enables her to see internal organs of the human body. She describes her phenomenal abilities it as follows:”

“I have two sights. I can switch any minute without reason, should I want to see the state of health of a person,” Natasha said. “This switching makes no difficulty to me; I just need to think about it. I can see the full structure of a human body – how internal organs are positioned and how they function. It’s hard to explain how I identify diseases. Afflicted organs produce a kind of radiation. The second sight is active only in the daytime; it does not work at night.”

Forest Rings in Eastern Canada

CBC NEWS IN DEPTH: May 21, 2008

It is a strange phenomenon: thousands of large, perfectly round “forest rings” dot the boreal landscape of northern Ontario.

From the air, these mysterious light-coloured rings of stunted tree growth are clearly visible, but on the ground, you could walk right through them without noticing them. They range in diameter from 30 metres to 2 kilometres, with the average ring measuring about 91 metres across. Over 2,000 of these forest rings have been documented, but scientists estimate the actual number is more than 8,000.

What causes these near-perfect circles in the forest?

Since they were discovered on aerial photos about 50 years ago, the rings have baffled biologists, geologists and foresters. Some explanations put a UFO or extraterrestrial spin on the phenomenon. Astronomers suggest the rings might be the result of meteor strikes. Prospectors wonder whether the formations signal diamond-bearing kimberlites, a type of igneous rock.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where the human mind can take us. I found a couple of unusual stories about trance-like states.

Mass trance afflicts Indonesian women, factory workers

By Sunanda Creagh

Sun Feb 24, 8:24 PM ET

Indonesian media reported a group trance among workers at Bentoel’s cigarette factory in Malang, Java, in March 2006. Hidajat interviewed 30 of the affected women for her research.

“They told me that when it happened, they were sitting in a very long hall, working together in rows, rolling the cigarettes by hand,” she said.

“They were working in silence. That’s one of the requirements of a trance to happen — it’s usually quiet and when they are engaged in monotonous activity.”

Suddenly, one of the workers started screaming and her body went stiff. The one next to her started crying and went stiff too. Others tried to help but soon they started too in a kind of domino effect.

A local Muslim leader was summoned, but his prayers had no effect. Eventually, the exhausted women fell asleep and when they awoke they remembered nothing.

By SADIBOU MARONE

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — More than 50 school children underwent hospital treatment Friday after developing what educators called mass hysteria, marked by fainting and screaming.

“It’s the first time that I have seen such a phenomenon,” Sourang said.

“The phenomenon started in one of the classrooms,” Aidara said. “Three students, all girls, fell down. The same phenomenon was repeated 30 minutes later during recess.”

Mysterious deaths of 9 Russian skiers still unsolved

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I came across an interesting article in the St. Petersburg Times this week. Apparently 49 years ago 9 young skiers died in the Ural mountains under unusual circumstances. When they failed to show up on time searchers discovered their camp had been vacated quickly. Apparently they had cut open the tent and ran down slope from the camp wearing only their nightclothes and without any footware on! Five the bodies were located immediately and had succumbed to exposure from the very cold temperatures. Here’s an excerpt from the original article about the remaining skiers :
“It took two months to locate the remaining skiers. Their bodies were found buried under four meters of snow in a forest ravine, 75 meters away from the pine tree. The four — Nicolas Thibeaux-Brignollel, 24, Ludmila Dubinina, 21, Alexander Zolotaryov, 37, and Alexander Kolevatov, 25 — appeared to have suffered traumatic deaths. Thibeaux-Brignollel’s skull had been crushed, and Dubunina and Zolotarev had numerous broken ribs. Dubinina also had no tongue. ”
