One of nature’s surprises on a recent walk. A beautiful mushroom called Amanita muscaria. It is also known as fly agaric. A very interesting mushroom that is stunning red with white spots and psychoactive properties.
It was a beautiful day at Spider Lake yesterday. Very peaceful and quiet … a real zen zone.
This area was previously a gravel pit and now it is a fantastic recreation area for fisherman, kayaks, paddle boards, and swimmers. It is a good example of industrial land converted back into nature! 🙂
Otherworldly, but oh so cool is the Ghost pipe plant (Monotropa uniflora). Also known as Pipe or Corpse plant these flowers were in the deep forest on a slope by a stream. I have only seen this species of plant one other time in my lifetime. That was on Cypress mountain in 2008 during a field trip. Tim Burton comes to mind as well as Dr. Suess 🙂
